Do you need faster broadband?
Living in a rural area of Surrey means that slow broadband can be a real struggle. But with more and more people working from home and generally spending more time online, there’s an even bigger need for speed. And even if you’re happy with your broadband speed now, you might need faster speeds in the future.
The Government and Surrey County Council are keen for everyone to have access to faster broadband. The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme offers government funding to rural homes and businesses to help you get faster, but it’s a time-limited offer which ends soon.
Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme
If your home or small/medium sized business (SME) is classed as rural, can only access broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps, and is not already in any plans for a broadband upgrade, then by grouping together with other nearby homes and/or SMEs, you could be entitled to funding worth up to £1,500 per home and up to £3,500 per SME.
Residents and businesses benefiting from the funding are required to take up a service delivered on gigabit-capable infrastructure with a minimum of 30Mbps download speed or at least double their current speed.
Step 1, 2, 3
To kickstart the process, check that you can’t already access download speeds of 100Mbps or more by heading to Ofcom’s website. When you arrive at the site enter your postcode, then find and select your address.
Then, start talking to your neighbours, other homes or businesses in the area who may also be keen to get involved.
Finally, enter your postcode into the gigabitvoucher checker and contact one of the registered suppliers who will be able to confirm your eligibility and provide you with a quotation.
Be part of a digitally connected Britain
Although you might think your current broadband speed is fine, faster broadband will future proof your home and also your community, preparing you all for whatever digital revolution comes next.
