MVDC Local Plan Postponement
Councillor Margaret Cooksey, Cabinet Member for Planning, said: “Due to the uncertain national political landscape, it is the intention of Mole Valley District Council’s Cabinet to postpone the Future Mole Valley Local Plan consultation, which had been scheduled to take place between 21 October and 1 December 2019. This will need formal agreement by Cabinet at a meeting on 24 September.
“This has been a difficult decision but one we feel is necessary given that, if there is to be a General Election this autumn, it would now likely take place in November. If that were to be the case, the Local Plan consultation would unfortunately coincide with the ‘purdah’ period for the general election, meaning that all publicity activities would have to stop. This would have forced the cancellation of events to publicise the consultation, including public roadshows across the district.
“We would not wish to reschedule the consultation over the Christmas and New Year holiday period and the next available opportunity would therefore be early next year. We recognise this is not without its own risks, but we strongly believe it is preferable to it taking place at the same time as a general election.
“We remain committed to delivering a sustainable 15 year Local Plan for Mole Valley and will provide updates as soon as we are in a position to.”September 11, 2019
