Family Activities – FABB

Family Activities for Betchworth and Buckland, sometimes referred to as “FABB”, is the name given to a group, that has arranged school holiday activities for children living in Buckland and Betchworth for over 40 years.

Do you like the idea of meeting up with your school friends or making new local friends during the school holidays?  Everyone is welcome to join in the family activities – whether it is to see what we can spot on a local walk, get messy at crafts or to meet for a picnic and some games.

Each holiday’s programme of events is published in both the Betchworth and Buckland Parish magazines and posters are put up around the villages.  On the programme you’ll find a guide to each event, details of the small charge to cover costs and a contact number for booking. It does help enormously if you let us know in advance if you are planning to come along so we can make sure we buy the right amount of prizes/equipment/goodies!

If you would like to help out with these events or have ideas for future activities that can help to bring local families together during the school holidays please contact Catriona Martin.

Recent events

During the 2016 Summer school holidays we enjoyed visits to Buckland’s Victory Wartime Garden, Dorking fire station and Priory Farm (Nutfield) and earlier in the year we enjoyed an Easter Egg Hunt.

Last Christmas FABB arranged a party for children living in the two villages.  The Christmas party was held in Buckland Reading Room, just before Christmas and we had a great turn out of 35 children, ranging from 2 to 9 years of age.A Mr Marvel Magic show entertained children and parents alike, followed by tea and a lively snow disco. The highlight was a guest appearance by a very brave ‘Father Christmas’ with a sack full of toys to round off a wonderful afternoon.  It was a fantastic opportunity to gather together the children of the two villages, many of whom attend a wide range of different schools.  Everyone agreed it was a magical community moment and we are keen to make it a regular Christmas event with ideas for fund raising for next Christmas already being discussed!
