Help prevent flooding in your local community

Do you have a watercourse, such as a ditch, stream or river running through, or alongside, your property?  SCC recently issued a reminder that if you do, you are probably responsible for its maintenance and in legal terms you are a ‘riparian owner’.

Keeping your watercourse well maintained benefits the community as a whole.  If an area experiences constant flooding, this becomes a nuisance to the community, can restrict access to property, can make roads more dangerous and results in considerable expense and inconvenience for those that have been flooded.  Ongoing flooding events highlight the importance of watercourse maintenance in keeping our drainage systems working properly.”
